Deliberation

Democratic deliberation: the reasoned exchange of arguments as the basis of political decision.

Deliberative democracy, formulated by Habermas, Cohen, Gutmann, and Thompson, holds that political legitimacy is not reducible to vote counting: it also rests on the quality of public debate preceding the decision. Revista Conciencia Democrática assumes this deliberative vocation: it publishes reasoned analysis, open to dissent, committed to respect for the other's argument.
